RE: Want to use 2 Laptops

Is your Verizon aircard a USB type? If so, I believe the Linksys mention by Gary will not work for you.
I have use Apple computers (if you have a Mac) in the home linked together using the built in Wi-Fi (Airport) already mentioned and it works fine. No need to spend any more money.
As already suggested, I would check out the 3Gstore. They have all of the information you need there. One of the employees is a member of this forum and is always helping out with good advice.
I am using a CradlePoint wireless router with USB ports with my Verizon USB720 aircard in my home and works great. I can use my laptop anywhere in the house or even outside on the deck.
Either of the above will do exactly what you what. Check out the 3Gstore.com HERE.

RE: Digital TV converter, 12 volts?

My advice is to do it the simplest and cheapest way, which has already been mention.
Remember, some time in the future you will end up swapping out that old TV for a new one and everything that you do now will be mute.

RE: Dodge Cummins Problem

Another note about the $100 deductible. My dealer printed out a computer report with my VIN number and said I would have to pay the deductible. I went and got the owners manual out of the truck and show them in print that I should not have to paid the deductible. They informed me they would have to show it to someone in the dealership that handle warranties. They next day they called me back and told me that I did not have to pay the deductible.
Hope this helps.

RE: Dodge Cummins Problem

SAS is 100% correct in everything he stated.
Mine started doing it about 20 miles from home when I caught a stop light. Boy does you heart sink when you are sitting at the light with traffic behind you and it won't start. Finally started and I got less than a mile from home and I parked it on the side of the road. The two dogs and I walked on home.
Had the truck towed to nearest Dodge dealer (insurance paid the tow) and they knew what it was and repaired it under warranty at no expense to me. I was out no money but had the inconvenience of losing the truck for two day.
FYI: I had 68k miles at the time. Has been running fine since the repair.

RE: 1 generator vs. 2 piggy backed

Another thought. I currently own one Honda 2000. And it will run everything on our fifth-wheel except the AC. So far has not been hot enough to run out and buy the second 2000 so that I can use the AC. But if I do choose to do so I will be able to do so. In the mean time I have a great generator that I can carry around, quite, and gets the job done. So if you can't afford two generators at once, do as I have and start with one at a time.
Also, one Honda 2000 charges my two 6-volt batteries back to full charge in a couple of hours each morning. Do not need two 2000's or one 3000 to do that job. If you must have the AC, then I would lean toward two 2000's instead of one 3000. First because of the weight and second because 75% of the time you really only need one 2000 to get the job done.

RE: ?'s on Sidewinder's

. Sometimes it goes in on the first try. Last week it took over an hour.
Over an hour!!!! Are you saying that the SW must be hitched and unhitched in a perfect straight line in order to work? I hope that that this just a one time thing or at least chalked up to "a learning curve" in using the SW. If true this could possibly be a deal breaker for me.
Please tell me you were just having a bad day.:?

RE: ?'s on Sidewinder's

I called about a Montana and Keystone was OK with the SW on it. I find it more difficult to hitch up with the SW. Even though it swivels 180 degrees, if you are not lined up straight on the the kingpin and wedge, the jaws of my reese 16K will not close. even 5 degrees off is too much.
barry
Can you explain why this is? I can't visualize why this is or should be a problem.

RE: ?'s on Sidewinder's

You are correct, sir. However, my SW was $777.00 delivered and I installed it myself in two hours or so. I got my Reese 16K (non-slider) hitch with the trailer. The cheapest I was able to find a Superglide was about $2,300.00. So, even if you have to buy a quality non-slider hitch ($600.00 or so) you're still way ahead financially.
Thanks, this is what I wanted to know. I wasn't sure if the SW came with a hitch or not. This is nice in the fact that it allows you to use whatever hitch you prefer.

RE: ?'s on Sidewinder's

First let me state that I currently own and use a SuperGlide. However, I am very interested in the SideWinder and could possibly be a buyer in the future.
It has been stated that the SW is one third the cost of a SG. But this does not included the cost of a hitch? Am I correct on this? You still have to purchase a separate hitch. Correct?
So if I bought a SW and a quality hitch (don't want a bargain basement cheap one), is there going to be a price advantage? I don't mind spending the money if I think and feel that I am buying a superior product and will be happy with it.

RE: White King Water Softener & The Geo Method

I buy Calgon at my Super Wal-Mart, but it isn't easy to find. I found it close to the fabric softeners. It's a white, plastic container with a blue label that has a rainbow on it. It looks like this.
Yes the Super Wal*Marts around here have in liquid form only. The days of powder Calgon in a box (the way we remembered it when we were kids) seems to be long gone. I looked everywhere for it and never found any. Then I asked the young girl at a Wal*mart one day and she took me right to the liguid type in a bottle.
I guess the smart thing is always ask the young girls first. :B

RE: SYNTHETIC OIL FOR DIESEL

There are two reasons that I use synthetic oil.
1st, in cold weather a diesel with synthetic will crank over much easier compare to the same engine running dino oil.
2nd, synthetic has a higher point at which the oil will burn. You may never reach this extreme high temperature point with normal use of your TV. What I like it for is if I get in a hurry and don't do a proper cool down after hard running (3-5 minute idle time), I believe the synthetic will protect the turbo charger much better than dino oil. Most turbo failure comes from frying the oil in the bearings before they have cooled down.
Another note is that synthetic will hold its viscosity longer than dino oil. This will be more of a factor of your maintenance schedule of oil changes. So the use of synthetic still comes down more to your type of driving and use of the motor. This is where the cost factor comes in and it becomes a personal choice.
For what it's worth, I use synthetic in all three (car/gas, SUV/gas & truck/diesel) of my vehicles plus lawn mower (larger commercial type), generator, and pressure washer. It makes me feel good. :)

RE: Pull with a Dodge

I do not have any first hand experience or knowledge on this. However, I would not think there would be a problem. I would believe that if the engine needed more power (running on 8 cylinders) then it will do so.
The real questions is, if you are running at a steady speed on level ground or even better yet, down hill, will the engine revert to running on fewer cylinders and save you fuel?

RE: Info about Ford's new Scorpion Diesel

I have an early 2004 Dodge Cummins rated at 305HP / 355 Ft-Lbs. I honestly believe I have hit the balance between power and MPG.
When traveling with another couple with a newer Ford PS, I can run with him and he can run with me. My truck has all the power needed to pull my 5ver around even in the WV & NC mountains.
I honestly believe that I could be happy with less power. If one of the big 3 would come out with 250-275 HP and 450-500 Ft-Lb engine I would be a potential buyer of a truck with this kind of setup. If you want to be in the power war then put those motors in the 450/550 model trucks and keep the 250/350 lines with a lower powered motor that is more economical and user friendly for day to day use.
Just my 2 cents worth.

RE: Satelite Prep

If your DVR is a dual tuner (has two tuners with two cable connections) then you will need to add another cable and satellite connection.
My 5ver was "sat prepped" but I had to add another connection, plus cable. Was not that hard to do, or at least on my unit. I was able to snake the second cable with ease and everything worked out fine. Not sure how yours may be.
Good luck,

RE: What Happened To Mobil 1 ?

Thanks to all for the info. It appears that I was thinking Advance Auto and I went to AutoZone instead.:S
I will check out one of the local Advance Auto stores. I still wonder why Wal*Mart quit carrying it. They have all of the other Mobil 1 products plus just about every brand of diesel oil that is out there.:?

What Happened To Mobil 1 ?

In this part of the country it appears Mobil 1 synthetic for diesels has gone off the market. Use to be you could buy it at any Wal*Mart or AutoZone. Now it is no where to be found. I have even search other stores to no avail.
Anyone have any information on this, or at least where it can be purchased?

RE: charging battery with generator

BC, you may not need to purchase a separate charger.
As stated before (I don't believe you understood) using your converter in your RV is the easiest and simplest way to go. Provided your converter is an "intelligent" charger. If it is, all you do is connect your shoreline power cord on the RV to the Honda 2000 and you get a perfect 3 phase charge. The same thing a good battery charger is going to do.
Go check your converter brand and model number and report back to this thread. If you already have the right kind of converter you are already set to go. If you have a basic converter, then a battery charger is the way to go or exchange out your current converter.
I'm sorry I am not trying to tell you what to do, but I have the feeling you are a bit confused on what is being told to you.

RE: Superglide bangs unhitched

Butch is 100% correct.
Even if he was not, when you adjust the nylon bushing as described in the manual, the hitch will stop sliding and making noise. Absolutely no need for a bungee cord. Mine has not "bang around" for close to two years now.
